ABOUT US

We are a husband and wife motorcycling team. When not riding the backroads, I work for the state and hold a second job as a motorcycle coach, which I love. Paul spends an inordinate amount of time on the road as a truck driver and gets squirrely when he cannot ride. Both of us share an enthusiasm for only taking the winding backroads as many adventure riders do. Shunpiking, according to Wikipedia, is “the act of deliberately avoiding roads that require payment of a fee or toll to travel on them, usually by traveling on alternate ‘free’ roads which bypass the toll road. The term comes from the word shun, meaning ‘to avoid,’ and pike, a term referring to turnpikes, which is another name for toll roads. People who often avoid toll roads sometimes call themselves shunpikers. Historically, certain paths around toll booths came to be so well-known they were called "shun-pikes."  Currently, we live in Delaware which is the void of exciting roads, so we often plan trips that introduces excitement way back beyond the congested highways and heavily traveled roads. We like to share our adventures with our children Emily age 11 and Eric age 17. Eric who has Asperger’s syndrome is soothed by riding on the back of my Boulevard or Goldwing, and Emily in all pink motorcycle gear rides on the back of her daddy’s BMW. Paul and I believe in safe riding and all the gear all the time attitude. We even have a special harness for Emily. We like to share our travels with anyone that shares the same passion. Come join us on our next ride
